Home Tour: Our Bedroom

Well folks, it's taken long enough but I can finally say we have FINISHED our master bedroom. We've only lived in this place a year now and might or might not be moving out in May but hey, finished is finished. In our defense, part of the reason it did take so bloody long to finish decorating this room IS because we upgraded from a queen to a king bed, so that of course changed things up a bit. Between a new headboard and new bedding this room has been under quite the transition for some time now. But I am so glad we took our time and let it evolve as it did because we are so pleased with our simple, neutral, minimal, peaceful bedroom.

After a few failed attempts to make some color work in here we ultimately decided to go with a completely neutral color scheme. Blacks, whites, greys, creams, tans, wood, etc. As with the rest of our house, the one thing I wish we could do in here is paint. We'll hold out for buying a home to get some paint on our walls. Speaking of buying a home, I think we're so happy with how this room has turned out that one day most of this stuff will just come right along with us to it's new home. Finally, master bedroom success that we both agree on and can build on once we get into a new space.
Joel refinished our dresser from beat up old wood to this cream/tan color before we got married and it has been perfect fit for the room so far. BUT one day (again when we're in a bigger space) we'd love to use the dresser we found on the side of the road as our dresser. Right now it doesn't fit in here but one day I'd love the wood and style combined with this decor. The hanging light was a Goodwill find... cha-ching and I roughly painted the piece hanging behind it.
Next to both of our sides are mirrors turned chalkboards that I change out occasionally. This is His...

... and mine. For now. (oops, just realized I need to re-align that chalkboard, my bad)
That's a new "L" shelf we picked up on major clearance from Crate & Barrel and it was the perfect finishing touch our room as been looking for. Still haven't decided how to fill it quite yet but so far it's workin' with random stuff we had lying around. And our nightstands were a thrift store find at $30 for the pair! They were originally a blonde wood that Joel re-finished black but those sexy gold leg caps had to stay. We love. For $15 a pop?! Are you kidding me.

And that's it! Like I said for now this does us juuuuust fine and we're so happy to have settled on a look and style that's totally us and something we can continue building on once we're in a more permanent space. Sooooooo happy.
