Introducing: Craigs Corner!

I am THRILLED to announce a new blog project I have been dreaming up for a while now! It's no secret that Joel and I have a mild Craigslist obsession. Nearly ALL of what we own comes from there and we're big believers in checking there first for almost all home purchases. We've recently been approached by a few different people to help them out in their own Craigslist ventures, and this has gotten us thinking about how much we truly value and ENJOY Craigslist and why. We thought its time to share some of this with you all in hopes that you'll either 1. Get out there and start enjoying some of the action yourself or 2. Stop thinking we're crazy and actually SEE what we mean. It really helps that Joel and I totally balance each others Craigslist skills out. While Joel's specialty is buying and selling, mine is more the actual finding. We'll post more on Joel's part of this later but today we're going to focus on the finding part.
The plan is for each Craigs Corner to vary week to week. But the first "installment" is going to contain inspiration boards for various rooms or parts of the house using ALL affordable Craigslist finds! This will be me scouring Craigslist to find fun pieces that go together to make up a space and putting them together so you can see the potential that other people's "junk" might have. This is to show you what true gems are out there for affordable costs and how easy it is for anybody, yes even you, to transform a space through Craigslist! I have had so many people tell me "Oh I could never just go out and FIND that" or "I wouldn't even begin to know what to look for on Craigslist" or "Isn't that stuff just other people's junk?" If this is you then buckle up because I hope this will be a fun new weekly adventure where we can shed some light on the the potential and power of the fabulous resource that is, Craigslist! The best part of it all? This is all CURRENTLY AVAILABLE and AFFORDABLE on Craigslist as we speak! So if you see something that speaks to you (maybe not the whole space but a piece here or a piece there) it can be yours!

So here's the breakdown... Each post will include 4 things:

  • A brief overview of what inspired each designed space
  • The inspiration board containing labeled pictures of all the pieces found with corresponding numbers to...
  • The list of descriptions and where the pieces can be found on Craigslist
  • The total exact cost of the entire space and the total estimated bargained cost for the entire space... this will shock you!

Get it? Got it? Good.

For the very first ever Craigs Corner post we'll be working with a casual living/sitting room. I decided to go with a mid-century/southwestern look here and it all started with this gorgeous coffee table. Can't you just see this with decorative stacks of books on the bottom shelves?? Of course painting it is an option but in this case I'd say the natural wood is really workin' here. Anyway from there it just took off using various mid-century pieces that are modern, vintage, and practical all in one. Heeeeeeere we go!

1. Mid-Century Accent Chair // $60 //

2. White Metal Wire Basket // $10 //
I'm envisioning this as a magazine rack?? Toy basket?? Record holder?? (If you're married to Joel Henderson) //

3. Modern Drexel Coffee Table // $40 //
Like I said, painted or natural, this table is a gem!

4. Southwest Pattern Area Rug // $35 //
I think southwestern decor is so overlooked these days //

5. Mid-Century Lamp // $30 //

6. Vintage Chicago Print // $20 //
Good artwork is hard to come by on Craigslist because it tends to be WAY overpriced and over valued. But if you can find fun and affordable prints or paintings like this (or even just cool large frames) you can really add a fun and easy dynamic to a space. I loved this Chicago poster-like print and think it would work in many different style spaces //

TOTAL EXACT SPACE COST: $195
(and that is assuming you pay full price for each piece, which is rarely the case on Craigslist) Joel and I think you could get the chair for $50, table for $30, basket for $5, print for $10, lamp for $20 and rug for $25 which would bring you down to...
TOTAL ESTIMATED BARGAINED SPACE COST: $140
