The Painted Pumpkin

I don't know about you, but I'd much rather paint a pumpkin rather than carve one. It's cleaner, quicker, less painful, and dare I say it... cuter? Anyway I have been itching, DYING to do something crafty to celebrate the fall season. Even if it's not fall everywhere in AZ, it is definitely fall up here in the mountains. We're getting rain and lows of 22, which means I'M getting lots of Macy's specials and busting out the winter wardrobe. LOVE THIS SEASON. Anyway, our good friend Becky Jo invited the roommates and I over for dinner & girl time in her new apartment before she ties the knot with Nate next weekend! We're all so excited for the wedding and can't wait to celebrate with all of our friends up here. In fact I'm SO excited that I decided to use some of this creative energy (that I seem to have no practical outlets for) on a little "house-warming" present to bring to dinner. Enter: the painted pumpkin.

I absolutely love love LOVE white pumpkins, a lot more than orange ones actually. But I definitely wouldn't mind pairing this with a cute little display of orange pumpkins next to it (but keep in mind this DIY is for the cheap college student). I originally just wanted to paint their new "F" last name initial on it but taking the size and shape of the pumpkin into consideration Cass and I decided it was best to go with the full name. To be honest I was just super intimidated by having to write the full name out in the script font but Cass encouraged me to face my fears and move forward. I'm not all that thrilled with how the lettering turned out but hey, copying a font is hard enough let alone with paint on an uneven pumpkin surface, so I'm ok with it.

Let's imagine I have my own home for a minute and just picture our address numbers each painted on a pumpkin lined up on our porch. Yeah you're gonna have to imagine that all the way until next fall. Sorry I'm being such a brat about not being able to decorate a home yet, it's just on my mind as are tons and tons of potential ideas... I'll survive.
